Moving

Loading/Delivery

It is now possible to get a shipping container to a residence to load your (HHG) House Hold Goods. This process is called (Live Load) and can be done by a moving company or the owner. We give 2 hours loading time and charge a per hour fee after 2 hours, if necessary items can be shuttled to a warehouse by you or a moving company to load at a warehouse. Having a Moving Company shuttle the items adds to the cost of the move, but it sometimes cannot be avoided. Top of the Line Transport can help to shuttle the goods from the home to a warehouse. There is also the process of the container being delivered and picked up at your request. This process is called (Drop and Pull) and can be done by a moving company or the owner. This process would be more costly due to having a drop fee as well as daily chassis and or pier diem fees.

Moving

Professional Movers - Cost Factors - Self - Service vs. Full - Service - Obtain A Written Cost Estimate

If you are moving from the US to the U.S. Virgin Islands St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John, the British Virgin Islands Tortola and Virgin Gorda, this section is for you. We recommend that you contact Top of the Line Transport for a free move plan consultation. Each move is very different, so the move that you may have read about on a message board may be very different from the move you would like to see. Before you go forward with your move plan, talk with us to confirm that your plan is efficient, and costly move mistakes are avoided.

Top of the Line Transport plans your move from origin to destination, identifying movers, truckers, carriers, customs brokers, and local delivery - everything needed for a successful move. As an added benefit, we enjoy finding the best rates from the ocean carriers for our clients. Not only is your move predictable and under control, it is often less expensive than other companies.

Professional Movers

Choosing a moving company may seem like an overwhelming task. The Internet is full of them – how do you choose? Some of them do not know where the Virgin Islands is, much less how to ship there. Those that do may charge you a premium because it is considered an International move. Top of the Line Transport has a great system that allows you to select the mover of your choice, without concern for the above fears. We can also select a mover from our network and put them in contact with you to arrange for a site survey. Whether you contact the mover, or it is our referral, we talk with the mover after the survey to get critical information to complete pricing in the move. Top of the Line Transport is with you in all of your move decisions, providing guidance and avoiding disappointment.

Cost factors

Size: The weight of your move. The more weight, the more cost.
Distance: The number of miles you are travelling between your home state and the port of export.
Time: The time of year you decide to move. Moving during peak times, such as the summer or holidays, means that you'll pay more for your move.

Self-service vs. full-service

A major cost factor when hiring a professional moving company is deciding between a "self-service" and a "full-service" move. In self-service moves, the company transports your belongings from old house to new, but you have to pack and unpack everything at both ends. In a full-service move, the moving company not only transports everything, but also packs and unpacks all your household goods. Most people who hire professional movers choose full-service. Although you could do a self-service move to save money, long-distance moves with lots of heavy, valuable items are best left to the professionals. In addition, cargo insurance for do-it-yourself moves is limited, and covers only damage caused by total loss disasters such as crashes or fire.

Obtain a written cost estimate

Most companies give free estimates, so be sure to ask ahead of time. The estimate is not binding, so the final cost may differ. Factors that might affect the cost of the move include:

  • Packing: If you want to save money, it's best to pack as much as you can on your own, leaving only the hardest tasks for the movers.
  • Staircases: Expect additional costs based on the number of staircases they need to use.
  • Pianos: Movers typically charge extra for each piano they move.
